Located on the Mississippi River, Saint Paul is the capital of the State of Minnesota and a relatively prosperous city of around 280,000 hardy souls. It’s recently-built Xcel Energy Center is the main venue, in 2008, for the Republican National Convention, as well as the U.S. Figure Skating Championships. In calmer years it plays host to Minnesota Wild hockey games and a variety of concerts and smaller conventions.
