Following in St. Paul’s wake, Murderapolis Minneapolis has announced the creation of their own “committee to protect the rights of protesters”, including no less august a person than mayor R.T. Ryback himself, possibly the only city mayor in the country to have a beer named after him. (It’s a pretty decent beer, too.) This comes, of course, amid concerns that Ramsey County Sheriff Bob Fletcher, responsible for the detention of troublemakers at the convention, is perhaps getting a little carried away with his preparations; we noted previously that he believes five percent (or less) of protestors will be troublesome, yet the 3,000 figure he’s planning for comes in at just under ten percent of all attendees, protestors or otherwise, if the Associated Press’ figures of 50,000 total attendees are remotely accurate.
It’s probably just a big publicity stunt for the city, anyway; we’re doubtful about both how many demonstrations will actually occur in Minneapolis, fifteen miles from the convention site, and how much influence, if any, they have with the SPPD and RCSO, anyway.
