The Saint Paul Pioneer Press is not known for it’s liberal viewpoint the way the Minneapolis “Red Star Tribune” is, so it’s not unexpected that they’d be displaying unbridled enthusiasm for the RNC convention here in September 2008, in an editorial opinion piece published today.
Overall, we’ve little to disagree with them about, except the supposition that attending meetings and giving voice to concerns is going to accomplish anything. The City has a long track record of doing whatsoever the City thinks is best, regardless of how long or loud people say otherwise. Eighteen months out, nobody’s going to know anything yet, nobody’s going to have any of the answers that matter to the little people. If people want to attend well-scripted press conferences announcing how “on top of things” the City is, that’s fine, but encouraging the illusion that they’ll have the chance to make a difference seems quite misleading.
Still… “The Republicans are coming! The Republicans are coming! Rah! Rah! Rah!”.

Nifty, thanks for keeping us up-to-date. We’ve amended the protest home page here accordingly.
